Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact full body exercise that focuses on building strength, including functional everyday movement and activity. Improves flexibility, stability and balance, and promotes overall body awareness and posture. It is suitable for people of all fitness levels.

2. What should I wear to a Pilates session?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid anything too loose, as it is helpful for the instructor to see your form. Bare feet is preferable allowing you to really ground your body.

3. Do I need to bring my own equipment?

Please bring your own mat. I do bring spares however and props including blocks, balls and bands.

4. How often should I do Pilates?

For noticeable results, we recommend practicing Pilates exercises at least 2 times per week. However, even one session per week can provide benefits.

5. Can I do Pilates if I have an injury or medical condition?

Yes, but please consult with your doctor first. Inform your instructor about any injuries or conditions so they can tailor exercises to your needs. This is also the case if you are pregnant, or one year postnatal.

6. Are you group classes suitable for beginners?

If you are a complete beginner to any form of mat based exercise, it would be ideal to have at least 1-2 PT sessions before joining the group to ensure that you execute the exercises correctly and get the most out of the classes. I do however offer different levels and iterations for each exercise as well as modifications.

7. Am I too old to start Pilates?

No, you’re never too old to practice Pilates! Pilates is a low impact, adaptable exercise that can be modified to suit all ages and fitness levels.

8. How many people are in a group class?

My class sizes have a maximum of 12 participants.

9. How long does it take to see results?

With consistent practice, you may start noticing improved strength and posture within a few weeks. Results vary depending on your frequency and effort.
